An exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to take this organisation to the next level

  • Strategic and operational leadership
  • Make a valuable contribution to the future of Australian women’s writing
  • Fundraising and stakeholder management

The Stella Prize is a major literary award that celebrates Australian women's writing and an organisation that champions cultural change. The prize is named after one of Australia's iconic female authors, Stella Maria Sarah 'Miles' Franklin, and was awarded for the first time in 2013.

The Stella Prize exists to achieve equal representation for women's writing. Stella aims to spark debate, raise awareness and influence the national conversation; and to lobby for greater inclusion of women's writing in our education system. The organisation’s vision is of an Australia that truly values the stories of women, with tangible progress towards a richer, more inclusive national identity.

The Stella Prize is looking for an innovative and pragmatic self-starter to take on the rewarding role of Executive Director reporting to the Board. With the organisation in transition, this is a unique opportunity to make your mark and advance Stella’s reach in education and shaping young people’s understanding of gender and women’s writing.

As Executive Director, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and the reputational, operational and financial management of Stella. You will build and sustain critical relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and be responsible for developing and executing Stella’s strategic plan and working with the Board to ensure the impact and ongoing sustainability of Stella. You will have demonstrated experience in capacity building, managing budgets and scaling up an organisation.

You will be a champion of women with a strong sense of your own identity and ability, ideally from the Arts, Publishing or Education sector who can connect with a broad range of people in varying fields. You will be committed to building a community of men and women who support the representation of women in cultural life especially in the written form.

This is a full-time role based in Melbourne. Travel may be required.

To apply, please submit your CV and a covering letter outlining why you are interested in representing The Stella Prize and how your skills and experience align to this opportunity.
